8. Use and Maintenance of PPE
The use, storage, cleaning, disinfection (when applicable) and repair of PPE should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Before using any kind of PPE, it is therefore essential to carefully read said instructions and in no case whatsoever modify or alter the original PPE.
In principle, all PPE is for personal use and may only be employed for its specified uses, except in exceptional particular cases. The conditions in which PPE is to be used are determined by:
- The seriousness of the hazard.
- The time or frequency of exposure to the hazard.
- The conditions of the job.
- The equipment’s features.
- Additional hazards derived from the actual use of the equipment that could not be avoided.
