Basic First-Aid Actions

3. CORRECT WAYS OF ACTING IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT

YOU SHOULD NOT YOU SHOULD

RULE
Move the injured person without
knowing what injuries he has suffered
Calm the injured person down and assure him
BURNS Use crèmes, ointments, sprays
Burst the blister that have formed
Administer any thing orally
Move the injured person
away from the source of heat
Apply plenty of water to burned areas
WOUNDS Disinfect them
with irritant products
(alcohol, iodine)
Keep clean
AMPUTATIONS Freeze or submerge the amputated part in water Wash the amputated part of the body
with sterile saline solution,
cover it with a gauze
and place it in a plastic bag
Transport the amputated
member in a cold container
PIERCING
OBJECTS
Try to remove them Control the bleeding by direct compression, stabilizing the object in its place
NOSE BLEEDS Lean head backwards
Lie the injured person down
Lean the person’s head backwards
plugging the nasal orifices with your fingers
BLEEDING
EARS
Plug Plug and cover with a bandage
(to prevent air and dirt from entering)
EXTERNAL
BLEEDING
Apply a tourniquet
(except in extreme cases)
Apply compression with a sterile gauze until the bleeding stops or qualified personnel take charge of the injured person
Pile up gauzes over the wound without removing those already soaked, maintaining pressure
