Work in premises presenting a fire or explosion hazard. Static Electricity.

  • Work on electrical installations and in premises presenting a fire or explosion hazard are to be carried out following a procedure that reduces these risks to a minimum. To do so, the presence of inflammable substances are to be limited and controlled in the work area and the appearance of sources of ignition are to be avoided, in particular in the case of an explosive atmosphere existing or possibly forming. In such cases, the carrying out of live work or operations (changing bulbs, fuses, etc.) is forbidden, unless such work is carried out on installations and with equipment designed to operate under these conditions and which fulfil the specific applicable regulations.
  • Before carrying out the work, the availability, suitability as regards the type of foreseeable fire and the sound working condition of extinction equipment and means is to be checked. If a fire is produced, the parts of the installation that may be affected are to be disconnected, unless it is necessary to leave them live to fight the fire or their disconnection entails potentially more serious hazards than those resulting from the fire itself.
  • Work is to be carried out by Authorised Workers; when it must be carried out in an explosive atmosphere, it is to be done by Qualified Workers and a previously studied procedure is to be followed.
